Local Ren Do Kai Karate Club Girls do us proud!

Three young ladies from Ren Do Kai Karate club based in Heywood town centre, did us proud in the AMA national championships earlier this month. The girls, Grace, Natasha and Freya all fought magnificently and reached the targets their coach and sensei Marc Leacock had set for them,

Natasha won Gold in the over 55kgs Kumite then followed this up with another Gold in the Ippon competition.

Freya fighting only her third competition in the higher age and weight category managed to clinch a silver in the under 55 kgs Kumite.

Grace who was fighting her first competition in the higher age category fought hard and missed out on silverware after losing her fight in a tie break.

Unfortunately the team kumite category in which the girls are reigning AMA national champions was cancelled due to a lack of team entrants.

The girls, aged 15, became close friends after training with one another from a young age. On account of their excellent performances in previous competitions, all three girls were selected as part of the AMA England squad and are set to take part in a host of competitions as the year unfolds.

Last year under the supervision of their sensei Ren Do Kai’s Marc Leacock, the girls fought as a team, in the 14 and under category, achieving the Gold medal and becoming national champions. The Girls will be defending this but in the higher age group, as well as fighting individually in their respective weights.

Apart from running a successful club Sensei Marc Leacock 7th Dan. also coaches on the England team and personally trains 3 of the squad members.

The next competition for the trio is the Northern championships in September.

The girls are pictured above showing off their AMA England kit bags purchased with some of the sponsorship money, other items purchased were tracksuits, tee shirts and some sparring equipment.
