Magnesium Elektron’s recycling plant in Litvinov, Czech Republic has been accredited with ISO 9001 : 2000 status.
“This accreditation now unifies the quality management systems operated in both the UK and CZ facilities and forms a strong basis for the planned certification to ISO 14001 of the Elektron Division later in the year” says Mr Alan Castle, Compliance Manager, and leader of the team responsible for implementation of ISO certification and all aspects relating to environmental policy.
The auditor complimented the areas of communication and management responsibility, in particular “the excellent work carried out on defining the training, and the competence of personnel”.
The plant, which commenced operations in January 2002 “has, as part of its quality plan, a policy of liaising closely with local environmental and government agencies” explained Mr Eman Krysl, Plant Manager. “This policy has ensured that all environmental protection standards exceed legal requirements”.
Supply of Elektron’s high purity die-casting alloys to the auto industry from the Litvinov facility have increased during 2004 as additional capacity has been brought on stream to satisfy customer demand. Capacity now stands in excess of 12,000 tonnes per annum.
Magnesium Elektron has been supplying magnesium alloys for over 50 years. “With its Manchester (U.K.) and Litvinov (CZ) facilities and the recent ascension of the Czech Republic into the EU, Magnesium Elektron is now the largest EU based supplier of magnesium die-casting alloys with a capacity of over 25,000 tonnes per annum” states Chris Dagger, Divisional Managing Director, Elektron Group.
